Twins win again, but lose Lopez for 2-3 months

(Sacramento, CA/Minnesota News Network) — The Minnesota Twins clinched a series victory over the Athletics with a 6-1 win in Sacramento last night. Ryan Jeffers got the scoring started with a solo home run in the top of the first, while Harrison Bader added a two-run shot in the fifth. Zebby Matthews earned his first win after holding the Athletics to one run on four hits in five innings. The Twins are in second place in the American League Central Division at 34-27. Justin Sterner was charged with the loss after surrendering one run on one hit in one inning of work. The 23-40 A’s have dropped nine straight games and 20 of their past 21 games. The four-game series wraps up today with a matinee scheduled for 2:35 P-M.

(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The Twins starting rotation was dealt a massive blow on Wednesday night. An MRI revealed the Pablo Lopez suffered a Grade Two strain of his teres major after exiting Tuesday’s game against the Athletics. Lopez will be out between eight-to-12 weeks as he recovers from the setback. The 29-year-old is 5-3 with a 2.82 earned runs in 11 starts this season. St. Paul Saints starter David Festa is expected to take the roster spot when the team officially places Lopez on the Injured List.
