Twins win in Texas, ABS System coming next year
(Arlington, TX/Minnesota News Network) — The Minnesota Twins opened their series against the Texas Rangers with a 4-1 win in Arlington. Ryan Jeffers was activated off the Injured List earlier in the day and hit a go-ahead single during a two-run third inning, while Zebby Matthews earned his fifth win after holding the Rangers to one run on four hits in seven innings. Minnesota has won its last two games and sits at 68-89 on the year. Joc Pederson homered in the losing effort for the Rangers, and Patrick Corbin was charged with his 11th loss after giving up two runs on four hits in three-and-two-thirds innings. The loss eliminated the 79-78 Rangers from playoff contention. Texas has dropped eight straight games. Game two of the three-game series is tonight at 7:05 P-M.
Electronic ball and strike calls are making their way to the big leagues. Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday that the Automatic Balls and Strikes system, or A-B-S, will be implemented for the 2026 season. Each team will be given two challenges each game, but will keep them if they’re successful. Challenges can only be initiated by a pitcher, catcher, or batter. The A-B-S system has been used in the minor leagues for a few years and was implemented during Major League spring training games this year.
