TWO ARRESTED IN HIGH SPEED CHASE IN RENVILLE COUNTY
Two people were arrested after a high-speed chase in Renville County early Tuesday morning. Authorities say a deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding at around 2 am on a Buick sedan traveling southbound on Highway 23 just north of Highway 212. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver accelerated initiating a high-speed pursuit. Speeds reached over 100 miles per hour and the pursuit lasted about 16 miles. A tire deflation device was deployed just outside of Renville on Highway 212. The vehicle came to a stop and the suspects fled on foot. A police K9 was deployed and a 39-year-old male and 38-year-old female, neither of whom are from the area, were found and taken into custody. Controlled substances were found at the scene and the driver showed signs of impairment. Both have been booked into the Renville County Jail on Fleeing in a motor vehicle, fleeing a peace officer by means other than a motor vehicle, DWI, possession of a controlled substance and obstruction of the legal process charges. The Renville County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Renville Police Department, the state patrol, Granite Falls police department, the Yellow Medicine, Redwood and Chippewa County Sheriff’s Offices, Olivia ambulance and the Renville Medical Response Unit.
