Uncertainty During Head Start Awareness Month in Minnesota
(Sauk Rapids, MN) — October is Head Start Awareness Month, highlighting a program that offers child and family services to low-income families to promote school readiness and success. Minnesota Head Start Association Executive Director Kraig Gratke says they receive 80 percent of funding from the federal government and parents are worried about surviving without the aid. He says, “they’re concerned about food and health care, kind of all of those things, and at Head Start, we know that those are important.” Gratke adds that their offices are operating at 60 percent of staff due to federal cuts.
