Vehicle Breaks Through Ice on Kandiyohi County Lake

A vehicle broke through the ice on a Kandiyohi County Lake Sunday night but the driver was able to get out before the vehicle became totally submerged.

The Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the Rush Brown Landing Public Water Access on the northeast shore of Green Lake at about 7pm.

During the investigation, a Deputy learned that as 22-year-old Blake Hiltner of Paynesville was driving about 100 yards from the landing, the front end of the vehicle broke through the ice.

Hiltner was able to get out through a window before the vehicle became completely submerged in about 8 feet of water.

Authorities say the location had 3 to 5 inches of ice and the area appeared to be a path that had been driven on numerous times in recent days.
