Viking Library System Celebrates 50 Years

The Viking Library System Governing Board and staff cordially invite you to join them in celebrating 50
years of providing library services to the region.

Viking Library System is hosting an Open House in celebration on Friday, July 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m. at its headquarters building located at 1915 Fir Avenue West, Fergus Falls, MN. Open house
activities for all ages include tours with historical trivia, art-making, and refreshments. Plus, pick-up a
free golden 50th anniversary sticker for your library card.

Viking Library System, which signed its original charter in October 1975, is one of twelve regional public
library systems in Minnesota tasked with connecting, promoting, and strengthening public library
services statewide. Initial member counties included Otter Tail, Douglas, Grant and Stevens, with Pope
and Traverse joining in later years.

Original member libraries included Fergus Falls Public Library, Alexandria Public Library, Hancock
Community Library, Morris Public Library and Thorson Memorial Library in Elbow Lake. The public
libraries in Wheaton, Browns Valley, Glenwood, New York Mills, and Perham joined the new system in
1976, while the Pelican Rapids Public Library became a member in 1988 following completion of the
community’s new library.

We look forward to celebrating with you at the Open House!
