Vikings news…few re-signed, few released
(Eagan, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The Minnesota Vikings re-signed a couple of familiar names on Wednesday at the start of N-F-L Free Agency. First, they re-signed safety Tavierre Thomas to a two year deal worth $4.6 million. In 2025, Thomas appeared in all 17 games for the Vikings, playing primarily on special teams. They also agreed to a revised contract with running back Aaron Jones to keep him in Purple. According to N-F-L Network, Jones agreed to lower his base salary to $5.5 million to stay in Minnesota. Last season Jones was limited to just 12 games due to injuries and rushed for 548 yards on 132 carries. He rushed for a pair of touchdowns and caught one more totaling 747 yards from scrimmage. In other news, the Vikings also release free safety Harrison Smith. It’s a cap procedural move to free up space and could return if he decides to delay retirement. The team also officially terminated the contracts of defensive linemen Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave.
