Walz Blasts ICE After Deadly Mpls Shooting, Prepares National Guard

(Learfield News/St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is condemning the Trump administration after a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fatally shot a Minneapolis woman during an operation Wednesday.

The victim is identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good.

Walz said Minnesota doesn’t need “any more help from the federal government,” calling the incident the result of “dangerous, sensationalized operations” that put public safety at risk. Walz announced he has issued a warning order to prepare the Minnesota National Guard for possible deployment. “We have soldiers in training and prepared to be deployed if necessary,” he said.

The Department of Homeland Security said ICE officers were conducting “targeted operations” when community members tried to block ICE vehicles.

DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said the ICE agent “fired defensive shots” as the woman attempted to run over agents.

Walz urged Minnesotans protesting the shooting to remain peaceful. “I feel your anger. I’m angry,” he said. “They want to show we can’t give it to them. We cannot. If you protest and express your First Amendment rights, please do so peacefully, as you always do.”
