White Sox Rally Late to Edge Twins 6-5 in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Colson Montgomery and Chase Meidroth each homered, while Brooks Baldwin and Mike Tauchman delivered clutch back-to-back RBI doubles in the eighth inning to lift the Chicago White Sox past the Minnesota Twins, 6-5, on Monday night.

Trailing 5-4 in the eighth, the White Sox mounted a comeback against Twins reliever Justin Topa (1-4), with Baldwin tying the game and Tauchman giving Chicago the lead for good with consecutive run-scoring doubles.

Kyle Alexander (5-13), the sixth of seven pitchers used by the White Sox, picked up the win. Jordan Leasure retired all four batters he faced to earn his fifth save of the season.

Montgomery sparked the scoring in the second inning with a solo home run — his fourth straight game with a homer against the Twins. Just three batters later, Meidroth followed with a two-run blast to put Chicago up 3-0 early.

Minnesota battled back, tying the game in the sixth with a solo homer from Royce Lewis and a sacrifice fly from Byron Buxton. In the seventh, Brooks Lee’s two-out RBI single gave the Twins a 5-4 lead.

The White Sox had a chance to extend their lead in the sixth, but Meidroth’s sharp grounder to a drawn-in infield turned into an out at the plate. Shortstop Lee threw home in time for catcher Ryan Jeffers to tag out Montgomery, ending the threat.

Twins starter Bailey Ober went five innings, allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Up Next:
The series continues Tuesday with Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson (5-4, 4.59 ERA) facing White Sox righty Davis Martin (5-9, 4.03 ERA).
