White Sox Rally Late to Top Twins 4-3, Extend Win Streak to Four
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Brooks Baldwin delivered an RBI single and Michael A. Taylor followed with a go-ahead two-run double as the Chicago White Sox stormed back to defeat the Minnesota Twins 4-3 on Wednesday night, securing their fourth consecutive victory.
Trailing 3-1 entering the ninth, the White Sox mounted their first comeback win of the season when down after eight innings — previously 0-72 in such games. Baldwin’s RBI single brought home Edgar Quero and moved Andrew Benintendi to third. After Baldwin swiped second, Taylor lined a clutch double down the left-field line, giving Chicago its first lead of the night.
Quero had earlier put the Sox on the board with a solo home run in the second inning and later crossed the plate in the ninth to spark the decisive rally.
Grant Taylor (1-4) earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of relief, while Jordan Leasure closed it out in the ninth for his sixth save. Justin Topa (1-5) took the loss for Minnesota.
The Twins jumped out to a quick lead in the first, with Luke Keaschall driving in Trevor Larnach with a double before scoring on Matt Wallner’s RBI single. Royce Lewis added to the lead with an RBI base hit in the third, plating Ryan Jeffers, who had three singles in the game.
Zebby Matthews had a strong start for the Twins, allowing just one run on three hits with five strikeouts over six innings, but the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead.
Replays confirmed Taylor’s game-winning double in the ninth landed just on the chalk down the left-field line, leaving a visible imprint in the dirt.
The White Sox also clinched the series with Wednesday’s victory.
