Wild come back to beat Blues 6-4 on big saves by Fleury and key goals from Boldy and Middleton
ST. PAUL, MN – Matt Boldy’s tiebreaking goal early in the third period led the Minnesota Wild to a 6-4 comeback victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, marking their fourth consecutive win.
Boldy capitalized on a 2-on-1 rush, scoring off a pass from Mats Zuccarello after Blues defenseman Jake Broberg’s stick broke in the neutral zone. Earlier, Joel Eriksson Ek scored for Minnesota midway through the second period, and Jake Middleton tied the game just 1:16 into the third. Marcus Johansson sealed the win with an empty-net goal.
St. Louis had built a 4-2 lead early in the second period thanks to goals from Jordan Kyrou, Jake Neighbours, and Robert Thomas. This prompted the Wild to pull goalie Filip Gustavsson, who had given up three goals after two strong previous performances against the Blues this season.
Marc-Andre Fleury stepped in for Gustavsson and was flawless, stopping all 16 shots he faced, including a dramatic windmill glove save that denied Dylan Holloway late in the game.
Zach Bogosian and Jon Merrill gave the Wild a quick lead with goals just 49 seconds apart in the first period, putting Minnesota ahead 2-1 within the first 2:12 of the game.
Up next, St. Louis will host Anaheim on Thursday to begin a four-game homestand, while Minnesota will take on Colorado at home.
