Willmar Man Arrested for Assault

A Willmar man was arrested Sunday night after the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault with a firearm that happened in the 500 Block of Atlantic Avenue North in the City of Kandiyohi.

The caller said two people had arrived at her residence with firearms and that she had been punched in the face. Before the arrival of law enforcement, one of the suspects was alleged to have fled the scene.

On arrival, deputies were met by several people in the street in front of the residence who were not compliant with commands given by law enforcement.

After several minutes of negotiation, a 21-year-old Willmar man was taken into custody and transported to jail on assault and obstruction charges.

All other occupants of the residence were safely evacuated, and the residence was then secured.

The investigation continues.
