Winthrop Man Sentenced in Sibley Co Murder

A Winthrop man has been sentenced to serve more that three decades in prison for the 2022 murder of a rural Winthrop man.

On Thursday, a Sibley County Judge sentenced 48-year-old Travis Bauer to 30 ½ years in prison for shooting and killing Dennis Weitzenkamp.

A jury found Bauer guilty of 2nd-degree murder in October.

Bauer was an employee on Weitzenkamp’s farm.

Financial records show that Bauer was in financial trouble and in danger of losing his home. It was also learned that Bauer stood to benefit greatly in the event of Weitzenkamp’s death.
