WNBA Announces 3 Expansion Teams
(New York, NY) — The W-N-B-A is expanding to 18 teams. On Monday, the league announced its adding teams in Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia. Cleveland will join the W-N-B-A in 2028 followed by Detroit in 2029 and Philadelphia in 2030. Cleveland and Detroit previously had teams when the league was at its peak with 16 teams in 2002. Next year will see teams in Portland and Toronto begin play following the Golden State Valkyries joining this season.
