Wolves rally to beat Spurs 104-103
Anthony Edwards delivered the decisive moment Sunday night, banking in a 3-foot runner with 16.8 seconds left to lift the Minnesota Timberwolves to a dramatic 104–103 comeback win over the San Antonio Spurs after trailing by as many as 19 points.
Edwards finished with 23 points, while Julius Randle added 15 points and eight rebounds and came up with the game’s biggest defensive stop. Randle’s physical defense forced Victor Wembanyama into a miss on a 16-foot jumper with 6.6 seconds remaining. Wembanyama, who returned to San Antonio’s starting lineup, scored 29 points in 27 minutes but struggled to shake Randle late.
After a back-and-forth final stretch between two Western Conference contenders, De’Aaron Fox’s desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer came up short, igniting a frenzy from the Minnesota crowd.
Donte DiVincenzo sparked the comeback with 19 points as the Timberwolves (26–14) erased a 19-point deficit early in the third quarter. Minnesota has now gone 16–6 since Thanksgiving.
Edwards gave the Wolves their first lead at 100–98 with a turnaround jumper with 2:19 remaining, though Harrison Barnes briefly put the Spurs back on top with a 3-pointer.
Wembanyama posted a plus-17, along with seven rebounds and three steals, and outshined fellow Frenchman Rudy Gobert, a four-time Defensive Player of the Year. Still on a minutes restriction after a knee hyperextension on Dec. 31, Wembanyama continues to work his way back after also missing 12 games earlier this season with calf tightness.
Naz Reid contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds for Minnesota, which played without head coach Chris Finch due to illness. The Timberwolves opened the game in a deep hole, falling behind 16–0 and not scoring their first basket until 4:39 had elapsed. Assistant coach Micah Nori filled in on the bench for Finch.
