Xcel Battery Storage Plan for MN Energy Capacity
(Learfield News/Minneapolis, MN) — Xcel Energy is proposing a first-in-the-nation battery storage network to meet Minnesota’s growing energy needs.
Officials say the Capacity-Connect proposal would deploy up to 200 megawatts of distributed battery capacity by 2028, and batteries would be placed at businesses and nonprofits statewide.
That aligns with the state’s goal to achieve 100 percent carbon-free electricity for all utilities by 2040.
Xcel says the system will store energy when it’s cheap and deliver it during peak demand.
